Frequently Asked Questions

Are you curious about tutoring but need more information? Get answers to your questions here!

I believe that tutoring needs to work for YOU and YOUR family, if you can't find the answer, contact me below or send me an email.

Where do the sessions take place?

Tutoring sessions take place in Ms. Jessica's at-home classroom, located in the South Calgary community of Legacy. This space contains all the resources your child needs and allows for better focus and productivity. Plus no need to clean your house before tutoring!

Do you tutor subjects other than literacy?

While I am qualified to teach K-6 in all subjects and have taught K-3 in all subjects, I provide literacy specific tutoring. My passion and expertise lies in literacy and I have completed extensive professional development in literacy instruction, literacy intervention, the science of reading, and structured literacy.

How does payment and booking a session work?

You can pay for sessions individually or book sessions as a package. Once you have paid, you can book your session. If you booked a package, the sessions will be credited on your account for you to book anytime within 2-4 months (depending on your package).

You can book sessions in any way that works for you: multiple sessions a week, once a week, once a month, or anything in between.

Do you have experience with kids that have learning/behaviour challenges?

As a classroom teacher, I have extensive experience working with children of diverse abilities and challenges. I have worked with children who have dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and a variety of learning disorders; children who have experienced trauma; and children who are learning English or for whom English is a second language. I am so passionate about tutoring because it allows me to help those children who need more support than a classroom teacher can provide.

My child's school uses XYZ literacy program, can you tutor based on what they are learning?

If you are interested in learning more about your child's literacy program, you can book a parent coaching session and I can provide information and tips for implementing that program at home. During tutoring sessions, I use the Orton-Gillingham approach, part of structured literacy / science of reading, as there is substantial evidence that this approach is effective for all readers, including those struggling with reading and those learning English.

Do you offer refunds?

If you are unable to attend your session, use all the sessions you paid for, or use your sessions within the allotted time there will be no refunds.
